This is an authentic antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tansu. It was made using Zelkova (Keyaki) and Cypress (Hinoki) woods and its age is from the 1880's to 1890's (mid Meiji era). It measures that 41.75" tall, 37" wide, 18.75" deep. The Choba Tansu was used by merchants and was traditionally displayed prominently in shops to impress customers. These chests display elaborate metal hardware that is meant to make it look important and catch the eye of the customer.

This is an antique Japanese vertical locking bar personal storage chest called Ko Bo Tansu. It was used to store letters, documents, books and other items for daily use. Made of Paulownia and Cryptomeria woods, it was finished in a natural Urushi lacquer and the iron fittings were all hand made. It measures that 25" tall, 23.75" wide, 14.25" deep. Contemporary uses for this piece include placement on a desk for additional office storage or using this as an elegant side table.

This is an antique Japanese merchant writing box called Kake Suzuri Bako from late 1800's. It measures that 8.88 "tall, 7.5" wide, 11" deep. It is made of Zelkova (Keyaki) and Paulownia (Kiri noki) woods and the iron fittings and hardware were hand made. Most likely used by a wealthy merchant, this box held the inkstone, brushes, paper, paperweight, and money that was used for daily business record keeping.
