As if this wasn't enough, the tansu maker added one additional secret box to the piece. The age of this tansu is circa 1880 to 1890 from the mid Meiji era.

This is a very rare 2 section Urushi lacquered Sendai tansu, Constructed of Zelkova wood (Keyaki) and Cedar (Suginoki) . The dimensions are 41 inches tall , 35.5 inches wide and 17.5 inches deep. This magnificent piece is the tansu collector's prize. It features lock plates that symbolize auspicious meaning including Shishi Botan, Shishi lion with peony. Behind the hinged door are 2 drawers. Its age is from the 1880's to 1890 (mid Meiji era).
