This is an antique Japanese merchant chest called Choba Tansu. It measures that 31.25" tall, 31.5" wide, 16.5" deep. It was made using 100% Paulownia wood. The iron fittings were hand made. It has a unique secret compartment hidden behind the bottom drawer requiring access from the back of the top drawer all of which is hidden by a hinged door (sometimes called a thieve's door). Sliding doors have beautiful details of flowers.
