This is a vintage Japanese 2 section tea chest called Cha Tansu. It was constructed out of Maple, Horse Chestnut and Paulownia woods and the bronze fittings were hand made. It measures that 46.5 "tall, 28 3/8 " wide, 11 " deep. The Cha Tansu was often used to store accoutrements for guest tea service as well as a cabinet to display seasonal decorations.
