This is an authentic antique Japanese merchant cabinet called Choba Tansu. It was constructed from Zelkova (Keyaki) and Paulownia (Kirinoki) woods and the bronze fittings were hand made. It measures that 35.75" tall, 35.13 " wide, 14.13 " deep. The Choba Tansu was used almost exclusively by merchants and was traditionally used in stores and shops to impress customers. It comes from the Nihon Matsu region of Japan and it was constructed out of Zelkova burl (Keyaki) and Cryptomeria (Suginoki) woods. It was finished in a natural Urushi lacquer and the iron fittings are all hand made. It measures that 38.75 "tall, 41.75 " wide, 17.75 " deep. The lock plates feature the Sho Chiku Bai (Pine, Bamboo, Plum Blossom) motif.
