This is a Japanese antique medicine chest called Kusuri Dansu from the late Edo period (1850's-1860's) made of Kiri ( paulownia ) and Sugi ( cedar) wood. It measures 35.25" high by 35.25" wide by 7.63" deep. Used by a pharmicist, its purpose was for the storage of herbs and medicines. This type of chest has become increasingly rare over the years.
