Ivan Stoppe, Los Angeles, CA, May 1,1904 to 1971. It is oil on canvas, signed clearly lower right. The condition is good with no repairs or in painting and has been cleaned recently. The size is 34" by 44" in an older frame with framed dimensions of 39.25" by 49.5". It is from a private East coast Collection where it has been for about 15 years. He was a renowned portrait painter in Los Angeles, California, and New York City. He assisted David Siquieras (along with others including Sanford Pollock,John Kehoe and Dean Cornwell) in painting the Plaza Art Center mural "America Tropical" in Los Angeles, 1932. (LA Times, 8/24/32), and a scene from Frank Stocton's work "Rudder Grange" is hung in the Stocton Library, Old Nutley, N.J., Feb. 6, 1942. This portrait in its original frame and dating c. 1940, is from an important West Palm Beach estate, and may have been painted in the Hurst Mansion of Los Angeles.
