This large rare American painting depicts a church designed by the famous architect and mason John McComb Jr,1763-1853, who designed many important buildings in New York City such as the famous St Mark's church in the Bowery (1799), New York City Hall (1789), City Hall Park (1803-1811), Trinity Church/St John's chapel (1807), Federal Hall. This painting is of one of his churches on the East Coast. It is signed indistinctly lower right E. Johnson. It is in the original 19th C handsome gold leaf frame. | ||
