Droochsloot (Droogsloot), Cornelis: School of Dutch, 1630-1673. This painting is of a Village Fair (Kermesse) and was painted in the 17th C. It is 21 ½” by 19” in very nice 18th C frame. It is apparently unsigned though remnants of a signature appear on the lower left. Droochsloot was known for Dutch city and country genre scenes. Benezit devoted more than a page to this artist.He was known for paintings of genre, religious subjects, animals and engravings.One of his favorite subject was the Village Kermesse or Village gathering such as this painting. His paintings are in many museums including the Louvre, the Prado, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Vienna. His paintings sell for up to $350,000. Paintings from the School of this artist sell for up to $18,000.
