Alfred Wordsworth Thompson, NA, Summit, NJ, 1840-1896. This wonderful orientalist painting is a very fine example of Wordsworth painting who is known for Northern African scenes as well as American subject matters. It is oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889 lower right. It is 15" by 22" in a 19th C frame 25.5" by 32" framed. It has been wax lined (lghtly)and is in good condition. He is listed in Fieldings, Mallett and Who was Who in American Art as well as 32 other important art books. He studied in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts where he was a pupil of Gleyke, E. Lambinet, and A. Pasisi. He was also a member of the National Academy, USA where he exhibited his work. His paintings are in the Metopolitain Museum and the White House as well as other museums and private collections. His paintings sell for up to $125,000.
