Hans Zatzka, Austrian, 1859-1945. This lovely painting is a very finely detailed example of Zatzka's portraits of beautiful young women in allegorical romantic landscape settings. It is oil on wood panel, 9 3/4"W b 19 3/4"H, signed lower right in a lovely orientalist period frame, 21 1/2"W by 26 1/2"H. He attended the Acadamie des Beaux Arts in Vienna from 1877-1892. He was a fairly prolific painter of genre and allegorical scenes with figures of beautiful women as well as religious subjects in his murals in churches in Vienna, Mayerling,Olmutz and Innsbruck. He is considered an orientalist and classic painter. He is listed in Benezit with extensive auction records up to $120,000.
