| Theodoro Gerard, Gand, Belgian, 1829-1902. This detailed and delightful genre painting is oil on canvas. It is in good condition and is signed lower right, 17 6/8" by 25 5/8" in the original 19th C frame 23 1/8" by 31". Gerard studied at the Gand Ecole des Beaux Arts and moved to Brussels. He was awarded medals in Brussels, Vienna, Philadelphia, London and Dunkerque. He was known for Genre paintings: village feasts and anecdotes of family life in the country painted with clear tones with a freshness of composition and a spontenaity in rendering the personalities of his subjects. His work is in Museums: Anvers, Brussels, Souabe, Courtra, Gand and is listed in Benezit as well as Les Petits Maitre de la 1820-1926. His paintings sell for up to $70,000. | ||
