SALE:$25,000 (pair)

We are very proud to offer a beautiful pair (male & female) of monumental Cloisonne Buddhistic Chinese Lions. They are often called Foo Dogs. The Chinese Foo Dog is a mythological creature that mixes traits from the ferocious African Lion & the precious Chinese Pekinese dog, They are Guardians lions or shishi lions. This pair is an impressive 21 inches high. The Lions are 16 inches high alone, with number 21 on bottom of each lion. The square bases upon which each lion sits are 17.5 inches long x 12.5 inches wide x 5 inches high. Lions (16”) plus base (5”) equals 21 inches high. There is no damage to either one upon very close scrutiny. They are in original & excellent condition. This is very old, very colorful, cloisonne, & some cells have multiple colors. They probably date to 1920-1940. There is a lot of ornate bronze (with gilt) work, also. Each lion is very intricate & detailed. The male has his foot on the World : a yellow circular ball with a hole for the bottom & a trailing gilted cloud. This is a neat piece! The female has her foot on a pup. Figural cloisonné is rare & is very sought after. These Buddhistic Lions are the epitome of perfection and subject. We were told that they took master craftsmen over 2 years to make them. A similar pair just sold at Skinners June 2,2011 auction. They sold for about $40,000.xx ! Buddhistic Lions are placed outside buildings & business. This pair can guard inside & look very impressive at the same time. They are just amazing, & we have owned them over 21 years. They are VERY VERY heavy. They will have to be packed & shipped professionally. We use Craters & Freighters. The buyer will pay these fees.
