We are very proud to offer an exceedingly rare antique Tibetan headdress with a great elongated train. It is made of huge amber beads, coral, turquoise, cowrie shell, silver and other semi-precious stones. The cost of large amber nowadays far exceeds the total price that we have on this treasure. The headdress would probably have been made and owned by the Khampa people of the Himalayas. This headdress would have been a ceremonial example and worn only several times a year at festivals or weddings. This example has reddish coral, turquoise, amber, and cowrie shells, with an interior cloth lining in excellent condition, with stains. Coral is not found in Tibet, so the coral got there by traders. The beadwork is in its original and excellent condition. It would date to the late 19th or early 20th century. This ornamental headdress would represent wealth for a family's status. Until recently these families were nomadic and moved around a lot. They could not store wealth in houses or land or in a bank. So for hundreds of years these tribes bought jeweled ornaments with their money. Amber, turquoise and coral were favorites because they were believed to hold spiritual powers. These were treasured by family members and were handed down from generation to generation. It is indeed a rarity to find one of these ornamental headdress as a family just would not part with them easily. This headdress measures 11½ inches high x 11½ inches wide x 27½ inches long. It weighs approximately 8 pounds. It is a very well decorated ornate example. It is just too beautiful for words to describe. Clearly this has had use and reverence. If one turns over the “tail”, the use over many decades is readily apparent by the “use stains” from many generations of wear (see photos). We are giving a "SALE" price of $4,000.00 because someone interested in buying it offered $4000.00 down from $4,5000.00. But they are in China and we do not sell Internationally. It would have to be sent to a USA address. Please examine the photos closely. They are an important part of the description. If you need more information than provided, please ask for clarification prior to bidding. We make every effort to describe items accurately, including their condition. We will ship this USPS priority mail or UPS ground, securely boxed, with tracking, insured and signature-required delivery (which may prove inconvenient to the buyer). NOTE: If the buyer does NOT wish the protection of signature confirmation, please contact the seller immediately upon payment, and then it must be shipped UPS ground. Sorry, but we cannot ship this to Alaska, Hawaii, or Internationally. NOTE: The high shipping cost is due to the high insurance fee, size, and weight. UPS and USPS have raised their rates once again! Buyer’s Responsibility for Reporting Damaged Items: In the unlikely event of a damage claim, the buyer must report such damage to the seller within 48 hours of receipt of the items in order to make a damage claim. The buyer must take photos of any damaged item and must notify the seller of such damage and forward such proof.
