We are very proud to offer a fabulous vintage (or possibly antique) Chinese Gilt Metal Court necklace that is 68 inches long, end-to-end. This is a ceremonial necklace called Chaozhu. There are 108 gilt beads that range from 14.96 mm to 15.19 mm. These 108 gilt beads are divided into four groups of twenty seven by four jade “fotou” (Buddha head beads). These jade beads average 20.02 mm. The “foutou” is connected to a green jade square bead that ends with a square quartz teardrop bead. There are three “jinian” strands (two on one side & one on other side) with reddish agate beads that each end in a teardrop quartz bead. This type of necklace is linked to the Buddhist rosary which also has 108 beads. These beautiful court necklaces have been made from all kinds of different expensive beads i.e.: amber, pearls, tourmaline, coral, but very few are made of gilt metal beads. This vintage necklace from 1930's (or older) is very scarce and very sought after by collectors everywhere. It is in its original and excellent condition with its own original fitted box. The box measures 10 inches x 12 inches x 1.75 inches. A similar necklace to this one sold last year for $9,500.00. Most of these necklaces have not survived the test of time because the silk used to hold them together deteriorated and fell apart. Here is a great example in great condition. It is stunning and impressive and very valuable, not to mention scarce! Provenance: Estate of Mrs. D. Engstrom, Sweden, acquired in the 1950's; then by descent to a family member in California. Please examine the photos closely. They are an important part of the description. If you need more information than provided, please ask for clarification prior to purchasing. We make every effort to describe items accurately, including their condition. We will ship this UPS ground, securely boxed, with tracking, insured and signature-required delivery (as required by PayPal and UPS). Sorry, but we cannot ship this to Alaska, Hawaii, or Internationally. However, we will consider shipping to Europe or Asia, but the buyer will be charged an additional shipping cost and be responsible for all customs and others fees. Please write for the possibility of international shipping before bidding. NOTE: The high shipping cost is due to the high insurance fee. Buyer’s Responsibility for Reporting Damaged Items: In the unlikely event of a damage claim, the buyer must report such damage to the seller and to the shipper (e.g. UPS or USPS, as applicable) within 48 hours of receipt of the item(s) in order for the buyer to make a damage claim to the shipping agent. The buyer must take photos of any damaged item, as well as photos of the original packing material, and forward such evidence to the shipper. The buyer must retain all original packing material and submit all items required for review by the shipping agent to initiate a damage claim and any applicable insurance payment to the buyer. Failure to keep items for review for the buyer’s insurance claim or to notify the seller and the shipper of any loss within these guidelines will forfeit rights of buyer to seek insurance reimbursement for the damaged goods received.
