We are very proud to offer a rare scarce Antique Japanese Ikebana woven bamboo double gourd flower basket sitting on an elaborately beautiful root-wood base with a small metal flowerpot. It measures 19.5 inches in length by 19 inches high by 9 inches wide. It is in original and excellent condition for its age. There is one tiny piece of wood on the root-wood base that has two nails holding it together (see Photo). Bamboo basket weaving is practically a lost art in Japan and this is why older baskets are so sought after and so costly. Antique pieces can sell for $4500.00 to $15,000.00, as most were destroyed by fire bombings in the Second World War.
This basket would be considered Meiji (1868-1912). A person who aspires to weave strips of bamboo into works of art will have to apprentice to an accomplished basket maker for at least ten years to learn the technique. Then it will take another ten years to be really creative. These skills were a part of Japanese culture for thousands of years. This simple grass can become something amazing and extraordinary like the double gourd basket we are offering. There are only a few contemporary bamboo weavers, and, maybe, 100 artisans who strive to make a living doing it now-a-days. It is a vanishing world. Our fabulous bamboo reed basket is an excellent example of the finest of these Japanese handcrafted Ikebana bamboo baskets that have survived for over 100 years. Double gourd baskets are exceedingly rare and this basket could bear a price of $4,500.00. So our price of only $1,875 is quite a bargain! It is so very beautiful and impressive!

Sorry, but we cannot ship this to Alaska, Hawaii, or Internationally. However, we will consider shipping to Alaska or Hawaii, but the buyer will be charged an additional shipping cost. Please write for the possibility of such shipping before purchasing.

Buyer’s Responsibility for Reporting Damaged Items:
In the unlikely event of a damage claim, the buyer must report such damage to the seller and to the shipper (e.g. UPS or USPS, as applicable) within 48 hours of receipt of the item(s) in order for the buyer to make a damage claim to the shipping agent. The buyer must take photos of any damaged item, as well as photos of the original packing material, and forward such evidence to the shipper. The buyer must retain all original packing material and submit all items required for review by the shipping agent to initiate a damage claim and any applicable insurance payment to the buyer. Failure to keep items for review for the buyer’s insurance claim or to notify the seller and the shipper of any loss within these guidelines will forfeit rights of the buyer to seek insurance reimbursement for the damaged goods received.
