Exceptionally elegant red vermillion lacquered zen buddhist temple sutra table in its original signed and dated box. Dated Keio gannen 8 (c.1865) the tapered legs and metal fittings on the table top indicate this was made for a rich temple. 37cm tall and 53cm wide the very top is in its own cotton wrapping. Stunning Edo Period C.1804-1829 large Arita porcelain charger signed on the back "Arita Kanyo" meaning this plate was hand painted and fired in a sacred shrine kiln controlled by the Nabeshima Clan. Arita porcelain was a top secret contolled exclusively by the Nabeshima clan and the 13 kilns they exported from. This plate is Koimari Kasei Stye meaning large blue and white charger. The thunder diaper design and dragon and swirls are all shinto and buddhist related symbols. Superb small japanese byobu screen painting of a peacock and a quail frolicking along a swirling blue rive among peonies under a massive pine tree. Signed by Nyogetsu a Taisho Period screen painter. Superb rare Edo Period C.1850 Noh mask of Chorei-Beshimi. Comes in elegant original maroon lacquered box with the paulownia leaf crest in gold lacquer. The paulownia leaf crest was used by Hideyoshi, the second Shogun. This mask is carved out of high quality paulownia wood with the grains giving the mask added impact. The Chorei-Beshimi mask is worn by the ghost of a warrior in the noh play, `Kumasaka`. Fantastic patina and perfect condition. Ask for shipping quote.

Very rare and unusual wood tiled village shrine from Dema - mura village in Mie Province. Dated the year of the tiger C.1818 the shrine houses gods and happiness. Signed on the back with the date and maker, Fujiwara Shokichi. Cypress wood with a bronze lock on the doors to the inner chamber. Unbelievable hangi woodblock from a set of sutra woodblocks used to print buddhist sutra books in the Edo Period, C.1850. Each japanese kanji character is carved into a lacquered cherry wood board BACKWARDS. When ink and rice paper applied, voila a printed page. Very sweet hearth pot stabilizing zelkova fish and iron hook on a bamboo pole with iron circle and fittings. A pot was held above the open hearth fire in old japanese minka farmhouses. The fish could be adjusted to adjust the pot. Years of fire smoke have created a patina on the fish and bamboo. The bamboo has iron bands on it and a few minor cracks. The fish is in great condition.
