Exceptional cypress wood buddhist Amidha Buddha sitting on gold lacquer lotus base on a gold laquer stand. We don`t think the lotus stand the buddha is sitting on and the gold base stand were originally together but they go together very nicely so we purchased this piece. The buddha`s facial expression rich with compassion and the carving of the hair with glass on forehead chakra is outstanding. The halo is in very good condition as is the piece. Wonderful Amida Buddha made of thick bronze signed on the back with the name: Fukui. We conservatively date it late 1800`s but it could be much older. Roughly cast but with fantastic simple beauty and depth. The more you look and be with this buddha, the more it`s essence of compassion and awareness permeates. Very mingei folk art and wabi -sabi. The hands in the zenjo-in mudra actually are detached. Very heavy but hollow inside so the amount of bronze is remarkable. Ask for shipping quote. H: 24" x W: 21".
