Very rare and unusual buddhist temple garden bronze turtle water spout. Lovely blue green patina from years outside on the turtles. Signed on the bottom ` Yoryo ` Mama turtle with baby turtle on its back. Little pegs on the back of the mama and tny holes in the baby`s feet keep it mounted. The tortoise has a thunder diaper design on its back. Thick bronze and very heavy. H:34cm x W:64". Ask for shipping quote.

Large Bronze zen buddhaist temple bell from the late Meiji Period C.1910. Signed with the foundry stamp of ZENRYU and Ganso which means this foundry was the original maker of bronze buddhist bells from the early Edo Period. The sound is resonating and very deep. Goes on forever. Stiker is lacquered wood with goat skin. Minor dents here and there but no cracks and weird vibrations or sounds. Fabulous sound. Bell height:12" x diameter:11". Stand red lacquered. Very rare bronze inspirational plaque that hung in the dojo main hall of a karate or sword training club in the late Meiji Period C.1890. Usually plaques in this style are wood. This is a mixture of metals that make up bronze with copper predominent. Metal copper fitting adorn the corners. The two kanji characters in the center are from the japanes words : IGEN meaning dignity and the qualities of leadership. The second kanji is from the japanese word: JINTOKU or human virtue, which in asian confucianism and samurai bushido codes is the highest human attribute of the spirit. THe sign reads: ITOKU. This japanese buddhist temple bell is dated on the bell Anei 2 C.1773. It is larger than most temple bells we have seen. On the bell is inscribed a Jodo-shu Sutra poem: the essence is the bell`s sound represents the Buddha`s voice or true word and is very deep and enlightened. It sounds in the 10 directions. This bell is signed by Ota Seibei Shigetsu, from one of the most famous Chudo Foundries & families famous in Edo Period. He made a reknown bell for Jakko-in in Ohara north of Kyoto. Estabished in C.1357, they were making bells and tea pots for over 400 years before they went out of business in 1961. They were connected to Enkoji Temple in Shiga. H:31" x Diameter:17". Fantastic late Meiji Period C.1905 egret incense burner. Standing on a field of bamboo leaves, the egret is standing on one leg and looking back over its shoulder. The detail on the head and feathers is a masterpiece. The body feathers are in fine relief and come off to reveal the incense ash and cavity. Height: 10" x 7". Excellent condition. Fantastic pair of Edo Period temple bronze hanging lanterns with a swirl motif on the metal. Dated with nengo Kyoho 9 (1724) the lanterns were later modified in the Taisho Period C.1920 with iron pipes on the top to allow electricity and bulb on the inside. Can be lit up. Dated bronze temple gong Meiji 38 (C.1906). The gong has a poem by the first prime minister of Japan after the Meiji Restoration, Ito Hirobumi and the caligraphy by the great Japanese caligrapher, Sugi Magoshichiro. Cast in bronze, it has a wooden mallet and o deep penetrating sound. Not sure if it was for a temple or tea house as the size is 15cm in diameter and a height of 27cm. Perfect condition.
