Stunning sencha tea cups by the famed neriage potterer, Nishimura Jozan. B.1958 Kyoto. Won new artist prize in 1986 and the prestigious Hano Togei Prize in 1993. Good for a cup of tea or a spot of sake, these cups employ a quite difficult pottery technique known to a few and mastered by Nishimura - san. Very art deco in design and form. Breathtaking Suehiro Koyama Bizen vase fired in a natural wood fired kiln. The organic patterns from the firing have created a majestic texture and art deco form. Suehiro was born in 1948 and studied for five years under Kaneshige Sozan before establishing his own kiln in 1971. This piece dates from those early years. In 1982 he established an Anagama at his current location in Bizen. He has won first place at the Okayama Prefectural Exhibition, as well as the Governors prize and others. His works have also been accepted at the National Traditional Arts and Crafts Exhibition, National Ceramics Exhibition, and one of his pieces was selected as a gift for the Imperial family.
