Quite exceptional murashi-do bronze hibachi in the original box signed and dated Taisho Period 11 April (c.1922). Heavy red bronze was used and when the bronze is red hot it is dipped in hot oil to achieve the mottled colorations of the metal. The piece is then smoked with rice straw for setting and more coloring. Would be stunning as a dinner table center piece with flowers. Excellent condition. Ask for shipping quote. Absolutely a work of art. our caligraphy translator said the cursive japanese writing even on papar was a masterpiece. To execute it in metal was exceptional. Stunning Imari charger with original paulownia wood box signed and dated C.1951. This plate was the work of Ogata Koen who won the Saga Prefecture Mayor prize with this plate in 1951. This launched him on a distinguished career and established him as the preeminent Imari artisan of the day. From Arita in Kyushu in southern Japan, this is the home of Imari. 'Murashido' is a bronze finishing technique perfected in the Taisho Period c. 1912-1926 whereby hotly fired bronzes were dipped in a hot oil to achieve the spectacular coloring effects.
