Lovely pair of Showa Period C.1930 lanterns with electricity and small bulbs inside. Throws of a beautiful ambient light. Made of metal with mesh sides on the hexagon shape. One side is a door that opens with the inscription explaining these lamps were donated to Shofuku-ji Temple by Mt.Koya-san in honor of the 1150 year memorial of Kobotaishi, the revered monk who brought Tendai Buddhism to Mt. Absolutely wabi-sabi murashi-do bronze flower vase in its original paulownia wood box. Dated Showa 27 (c.1953) the kanji on the box reads it was a dediction for a new building in Osaka for the Osaka Bank. Made by Shobi-Do, the premier maker of fine silver and bronze works in Osaka in the post-war era. Murashi-do is a bronze patinated technique where the bronze is dipped in hot oil after firing to achieve the lovely coloring effects. H:27cm x diameter 9cm. Ask for shipping quote.

Fabulous Ono Chikkyo b.1889-1979 egret on branch under whispering willow branches. Chikkyo studied under Takeuchi Seiho, one of the most important and famous Japanese painters in Kyoto before WWII. His "Shima Nisaku" painting received the Bunten gold medal in 1916 and after that his career took off. There is the Chikkyo Art Museum in Okayama, south of Kyoto and the retrospective " Ono Chikkyo - 120 Years After His Birth" was recently held in March , 2010. Painting H:133cm x W:31.2cm. Exceptionally lovely and well carved Kamakura-bori lacquered hibachi. Kamakura is religiuos center south of Tokyo where kamakura-bori was born in the Edo Period. After carving out of one piece of wood , usually gingo wood, the carving is lacquered and painstakingly polished. This large hibachi has peonies and sunflowers.
