Sensational 'Hakudo' white bronze (alloy of bronze and nickel) flower vase by the renown master Tadao Shoda. Shoda is from Sano City in Tochigi Prefecture which has a 1000 year history of being the home of the famous Tenmyo cast metal works. Most of the highest quality weapons of the Kamakura and Edo Periods came from these masters. Shoda won the Sano Renaissance Gold Prize. This elegant flower vase has textured sides sandwiched between smooth white bronze tapered sides. He was born in 1934 and won the Japan Traditional Art Gold Prize. In 1990 he won the prestigeous Kanashige Toyo Gold Prize. He started the famous Juko-gama kiln in Shimane Prefecture. Brilliant Kamakurabori box with peonies carved in relief lacquered in red vermillion. The inside of the box is lacquered in black. The bottom of the box has the characters Showa 45 meaning it was carved in 1970, Spring by a Mr. Tami.
