Stunning Imari charger with original paulownia wood box signed and dated C.1951. This plate was the work of Ogata Koen who won the Saga Prefecture Mayor prize with this plate in 1951. This launched him on a distinguished career and established him as the preeminent Imari artisan of the day. From Arita in Kyushu in southern Japan, this is the home of Imari.
