Very wabi sabi mingei bamboo ikebana flower basket from the Taisho Period. Susudake or smoked bamboo taken from old minka farmhouses ceilings was used in the construction of this masterpiece. Fabulous mixture of vertical inserts on the bottom with a plaited weave on the top. Butterfly knots adorn the handle while at the base of the handle an intricate series of rattan knots make up the insertion to the basket. H:13 1/2" x 6" width. Ask for shipping quote.

The detailed information of Kogetsu is not available, but the style and the feeling of this basket resembles that of Sasaki Kogakusai, who was active in Tokyo in early Showa period (1926-1940), so we believe that Kogetsu was one of the students of Kogakusai.
