Excellent depiction of Ebisu, one of the seven lucky gods of Japan in bronze. Early Showa Period, C.1930, the detail and expression is fabulous. Written on his back is "Shin Chiku Oiwai" meaning this bronze sculpture was commissioned as a new house celebration gift. The names of the presenters are also written. Ebisu is holding a fish in one had and a bamboo fishing pole in the other. He is the patron of fisherman as well as the Shinto god of businessman. Shrines to him abound all over Japan. He stands on a bronze rock. Standing about 37cm and about 24cm wide. Ask for shipping quote.

Very lovely black lacquered 'suzuri bako' writing box with mother of pearl inlaid leaves and swirling gold gilt vines on the cover. Inside is a silver ink pourer and ink stone and brush. Quite exceptional murashi-do bronze hibachi in the original box signed and dated Taisho Period 11 April (c.1922). Heavy red bronze was used and when the bronze is red hot it is dipped in hot oil to achieve the mottled colorations of the metal. Exceptional Taisho Period c.1925 bronze flower vase with a koi (carp) swimming up a waterfall symbolizing courage and determination. On the opposite side are the Japanese characters, 'Ken & To' in raised relief, meaning to persist and challenge. The vase is signed by Minobe and was most likely commissioned as a gift for someone facing a challenging journey or task.
