Very unusual and playful bronze koro or incense burner from the lat Taisho Period C.1925. In the form of a Shishi or mythical Fu-dog, this lost wax cast bronze is exceptional in its form and creative shape. Very striking and unusual brass buddhist temple `koro` incense burner from the early Showa period, C.1935. Heavy brass handles and a pewter mon or crest of a paulownia leaf on the front. Tripod legs of mythical buddhist elephants. The paulownia crest was the crest of Hideyoshi the second shogun so most likely a temple related to that lineage. Signed on the back by Fukushima Tokuzo who had this made and donated to a temple to honor his ancestors. 18" tall x 17" wide. Ask for shipping quote from california warehouse.

Stunning Imari charger with original paulownia wood box signed and dated C.1951. This plate was the work of Ogata Koen who won the Saga Prefecture Mayor prize with this plate in 1951. This launched him on a distinguished career and established him as the preeminent Imari artisan of the day. From Arita in Kyushu in southern Japan, this is the home of Imari. Fantastic Tsuitomu Matsushita wood fired Bizen ceramic flower vase fired in a climbing kiln. C.1980. He was born in Showa 12 (1938) and studied under one of Japan`s famous Kokuho Ningen National Treasures, the famous bizen ceramic master, Yamamoto Toshu. Tsuitomu`s wood fired earthenware Bizen vases have won numerous prizes including the Dento Kogei and the Nihon Togeiten prizes. His work is also in the Copenhagen Palace. Rare and exceptional Otafuku mask by one of Japan's preeminent masters of the modern era, Tamaya Shoubei 7th. He was famouse in Gifu for his karakuri - ningyoshi (wind-up dolls). All painstakingly hand made and delicately constructed. He was chosen to restore the Chahakobi Ningyo, one of the first karakuri ningyos among others including a famous karakuri ningyo in the Gion Festival in Kyoto. This Otafuku mask was a side pleasure and it is signed on the back. Made of paulownia wood and gofun crushed oyster shell paint. Excelent condition. With wood box (not original).
