Stunning early Showa Period C.1935 bronze flower vase with a hawk flying under a moon in relief on one side and a cursive tanka poem inscribed on the other on tripod wave legs. Absolutely a work of art. our caligraphy translator said the cursive japanese writing even on papar was a masterpiece. To execute it in metal was exceptional. Beautiful example of Mingei folk art from the Meiji Period. Dated Meiji 29 (C.1897) and signed on the back by the maker Takiguchi Hyokichi who carved this when he was 90 years old. In the original paulownia box. Has the paulownia leaf crest of Hideyoshi which means it was from Gifu. Statue is 10" high by 6" wide. Very good condition. Ask for shipping quote.
