Zen Buddhist Temple lanterns dated Showa 43 (1969). Inscripted on the lantern tops is the japanese characters 'senzo bodai no tame' meaning they were commissioned by Hamano Koichiro and Tawaramoto Genko so that their ancestors would be come buddhas. Kodo Arts has installed lighting in them so that they can stand or be hung as lamps with electric bulbs inside. Each lantern is 14" wide ; 19" high. Very elegant bronze Showa Period c.1950 with electic bronze tube for lighting. The oval lantern on tripod legs with beautiful bronze panels each with intricately swirling bronze vine lattices is a delight. One door has a latch and hinge and swings open.
