Very fine example of Taisho Period C.1920 Japanese bamboo flower baskets. Two difficult techniques are employed in this Basket. A nawa-ami or twining technique is used as well as a mat plaiting (gozame-ami). With the nawa - ami , two or more wefts pass around the warps. In addition the wefts themselves move up and down over one another. A beautiful effect is achieved with both weaves. In addition, a root handle is used with a rich patina. Simplicity of the lines and unobtusive design creates a Ikebana dream. 18" tall and 10" wide. Ask for shipping quote.
