Fabulous Showa Period red lacquered buddhist temple 'andon' lamp with electric light bulb. The metal work is copper and the red lacquer is superbly done. Lovely elegant gold gilt wood transom from the roof of a buddhist temple C.1920. These decorative wood carvings called 'ramma' would be placed between the beams of a holing up the roofs. Superb phoenix ramma transom carving C. 1930. Paulownia wood frame and carving. 2 phoenix flying amongst paulownia trees. The phoenix, along with the dragon is lives in the buddhist celestial realm and protects the teachings of the Buddha. Spectacular Meiji Period wood 'Yashiro' home shrine in gold gilt and lacquer. Exceptionally fine detail on the doors and windows; the windows slide up and the doors all open. Very rare huge zen buddhist temple bell dated Taisho Period C.1926 with temple name and donor inscribed on the bell. Huge reverberating sound in key of D that goes and goes. Has the registered patent mark of the Heian Ryuya Foundry on the bell, the most famous of Japanese bronze bell makers. Sits on silk cushion with stiker on black lacquered wood stand.
