Wonderfully weathered and wabi-sabi Late Meiji Period c.1910 bronze bell from a Shinto shrine. The bell usually hangs from the roof of the shrine entrance with a rope and you jiggle the bell to ring it and announce to the gods you have come to pray. Wonderful Japanese 'Zushi" zen buddhist travelling altar in black lacquered wood case with gold gilt lacquered inside. Jizo Bosatsu diety inside with halo adorned with three flaming jewels. The jizo also holds the sacred wishing gem and seems like there was a staff in his right hand. Very nice carving out of japanese cypress with serene, enlightened facial expression. Unbelievable signed and dated C. 1705 , June, black lacquered zen buddhist temple stand. Also written on the underside is that it was donated to a zen priest on an auspicious day by a Mr. Ichiya Hachinobu from Okubiniro - cho in Osaka. The sides of the stand have transoms of intricately carved swallows frolicing among bamboo and plum blossoms. Some lacquer has worn away but in remarkably excellent condition. Ask for shipping quote. Exciting lost-wax cast bronze altar set of candlestand, flower vase and incense burner. The prototype Meiji Period Buddhist altar troika made of red bronze is usually found before c.1900. The bronze candlestand has a crane standing on a mythical turtle back with a lotus flower leaf stem. The incense burner has mythical shishi lions adorning the top and sides in raised relief and buddhist cloud handles. Extremely rare Edo Period c. 1850 zen buddhist temple altar sacred inner chamber mirror. This mirror reflects the emptyness and void state the mind should achieve. The wood stand that holds the mirror is carved out of keyaki 'zelkova' wood in the lotus flower motif. There is minor wear on the wood. Mirror itself is bronze and on one side has the phoenix, the protector of the dharma (truth) in raised relief. Signed by Sawamori. The mirror has a bronze crown of flames. Serene and peaceful Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva or Jizo Bosatsu wood carving c.1920 Taisho Period with black lacquered robes and gold gilt chest and face. The Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva vowed to save all sentient beings in all six realms of rebirth between the time of Buddha's death and the appearance of Maitreya, the buddha of the future.
