Fabulous old mingei folk art textile from late Meiji Period C.1900 of a mix of kasuri ikat with sashiko over part of the ikat similar to a boro textile. Very rare set of 5 Taisho Period C.1925 kimono stencil carver's tools from Izu, the historical center of stencil production in old Japan. Spectacular Meiji Period maru obi c.1900. Woven on both sides with a jacquard loom, the blue/green dyes make this a superb example of a Kyoto style obi. The motifs are fans with pine, plum, bamboo, chrysanthemum and cranes; all auspicious symbols of happiness and good fortune. Excellent condition. Can be made into table runners or hangings. Rare set of 4 Meiji Period c.1900 yukata kimono stencils from Ise. Each piece is 2 laminated sheets of mulberry paper treated with a persimmons tanin and aged for 2 years by smoking for strength. The stencil carver then makes his or her own tools to carve out the desired patterns which are then applied with rice resist for the desired dying. Very charming two compartment bamboo tea ceremony utensil carrying basket, c.1915. Used for moon viewing and cherry blossom excursions where the tea ceremony was performed and the tea utensils could be fashionably carried. Beautiful weft diagonal weaves with lovely knot work on the handle. There is one shallow compartment on top and both top and bottom insides have silk cloth lining, albeit shredding a bit. Very rare murashido bronze flower vase with handles. Beautiful patina of a palate of colors achieved by coloring the hot bronze with straw smoke. The base has a chrysanthemum design and the condition is excellent with slight natural wear of the patina has allowed the original bronze to be seen.
