Outstanding wood-fired ceramic earthenware tea ceremony misusashi from the famed kiln area of Shigaraki. Fired for three days in a climbing kiln, the natural glaze formations and organic colorings are simply a treasure. Textures and shape round out this piece to a masterpiece of ceramic art. C.1930. White 'choseki' long life stones which predominate in Shigaraki clays are in abundance in this piece. The bottom has firing scars but from the inside no cracks can be seen. Very wabi sabi Taisho Period C.1920 iron tea ceremony tetsubin kettle used for making the green tea water. It is believed boiling water in these kettles confers on the participants long life. The kettle has characters in relief of a poem celebrating the mystical Horai Mountain in ancient China where the sages lived. It has the seal of Eirin, the foundry where it was made. Excellent condition, no leaks or cracks. Slight chip on the spout mouth or a firing scar, not sure which. Bronze lid with copper top. Ask for shipping quote. 26cm high ; 17cm wide.

Old 'susudake' or smoked bamboo taken from kitchen ceilings of old farmhouses when they changed the roofs. Wide strips have been inserted and a beautiful plaited weave keeps them in place.
