Very unusual and rare iron tetsubin tea ceremony kettle. The textured rough casting is the first of this kind that we have seen. The condition is excellent and there are no cracks or leaks. The lid is heavy red bronze and the lid top is copper. It is unsigned. Late Taisho Period. H: about 9" ; diameter about 7 1/2 ". Ask for shipping quote.

Fabulous antique Japanese iron tea kettle (tetsubin)signed by the famous 'Ryubundo' guild on the inside of the lid. . The intricate cloud diaper design throughout is a marvel condidering that it was carved uniformly into a mold in reverse, then cast. To get this kind of precision is remarkable. Very wabi sabi Taisho Period C.1920 iron tea ceremony tetsubin kettle used for making the green tea water. It is believed boiling water in these kettles confers on the participants long life. The kettle has characters in relief of a poem celebrating the mystical Horai Mountain in ancient China where the sages lived. It has the seal of Eirin, the foundry where it was made. Excellent condition, no leaks or cracks. Slight chip on the spout mouth or a firing scar, not sure which. Bronze lid with copper top. Ask for shipping quote. 26cm high ; 17cm wide.
