Sensational 'Hakudo' white bronze (alloy of bronze and nickel) flower vase by the renown master Tadao Shoda. Shoda is from Sano City in Tochigi Prefecture which has a 1000 year history of being the home of the famous Tenmyo cast metal works. Most of the highest quality weapons of the Kamakura and Edo Periods came from these masters. Shoda won the Sano Renaissance Gold Prize. This elegant flower vase has textured sides sandwiched between smooth white bronze tapered sides. Remarkable bronze samurai statue executed in unbelievable detail and craftsmanship. This Meiji Period c.1890 statue of a samurai offering his sword and loyalty to his lord is a museum piece. The detail even on the sword with mt. fuji in raised relief is spectacular. The samurai stands on a bronze rock with bronze waves crashing about. His armor is finely detailed as his his flowing cap. Gorgeous Taisho Period, c.1915 bronze "usubata" flower vase used for the tea ceremony. Outstanding bronze craftsmanship with 'aka' or red bronze which was used in Japan prior to WW2. Signed on the bottom, 'Arahakasan' which was the Edo Period name for Shitenoji Temple in Osaka. Most likely belonged to the Temple. The flowing waves creates a beautiful contrasting asymmetry. Exquisite Kannon, goddess of compassion and mercy on round bronze plaque in fine raised relief. 36 cm in diameter, the Kannon has a blissful, serene expression. The stamp on the front is the artis name, Ito Shinji. On the back is the inscription that this was an offering to a temple with the date, Showa 12 (1937) July which was an auspicious month. Simple but quite elegant yutenki bronze flower vase with 2 cranes flying towards Mt.Fuji all in raised relief.
