Exceptional bronze Jizo Bosatsu or guardian diety sculpted by the famous bronze craftsman, Amenomiya Jiro who lived C.1889-1970. This piece was was from the Showa Period c. 1935 and is signed on the back. This Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva wears priestly garb and carries a finial. In his left hand is the Hoju or flaming jewel symbolizing the empty void. He has vowed to save all sentient beings. H:53cm x w:18cm. Perfect conition. Ask for shipping quote.

Fantastic bronze dragon Shinto shrine /Buddhist temple purification water spout. Before entering the shrine or temple many sacred places have a dragon water spout that keeps purified water going into a stone tsukubai where visitors can purify hands and mouth before entering for prayer or offerings. This ryu or dragon is c.1980 and sits on a base of swiring buddhist clouds. The dragon along with the Ho or phoenix guards the buddha's teachings in the celestial realm. A spout comes out of the dragon's mouth and at the base is a pipe to hook up a water source. 85cm tall and 78cm wide. Ask for shipping quote.

Very rare and important old Japanese buddhist bronze temple post top called a giboshi. Standing 57cm tall and 30cm wide, it is like an art deco object with great impact. Stellar Taisho Period C.1920 bronze crane with riding sage tea ceremony incense censor or koro. We haven`t seen one of these in years. The bronze work on the wings and feet is first class. Invoking the feeling of an ascetic sage who has withdrawn from the world to the tea house to drink tea, this beautiful bronze hut koro or incense censor was used for the tea ceremony in the Taisho Period, C.1920. Most of these kind of bronzes these days are fakes; this one is the real McCoy. Wonderful bronze work on the roof ridge and the roof itself. Aka Do or red bronze was used and it creates a lovely patina on the hut walls. Comes with keyaki (zelkova ) wood stand. Hut is 5" tal and 4 " wide. Ask for shipping quote.

Exceptional and rare Meiji Period C.1890 bronze Shachihoko or mythical dragon carp Koro or incense censor. . Shachi or Shachihoko were frequently used as roof ornaments in the Edo period (1600-1868) and found atop castles, tower gates, and samurai homes. These fish-shaped ornaments are placed at both ends of the main roof ridge, with the male Shachi placed on the left and the female Shachi on the right. The creatures are thought to provide protection against fire, as they are attributed with the power to control rain. This dragon /carp has a lid on the upper tail. Not sure if it is original or if it has been replaced. Piece is in excellent condition. Ask for shipping quote.
