Wonderful tripod legged bronze 'koro' incense burner in the chinese style. The lid has three lotus blossoms at the top on a thunder diaper motif. The handles are also lotus blossoms and leaves. The bronze is very sold and the three tripod legs add an art deco feel. The lid has a bit of an undulation near the lotus blossoms and the lid has to be shifted to shut properly. Truly exceptional 'Sentoku' bronze flower vase with original kiri paulownia wood box. Sentoku is an antique bronze firing technique used before the war employing mixed metals of bronze , copper and spelter fired with straw to create an elegant coloring effect. This vase has color and remarkable bronze craftsmanship. Two pagodas, a maple tree and two sailing ships in spectacular relief move in dreamlike state through undulating hills all performed in a metal composition. A thing to behold. One of the best bronze vases we have ever seen. On the cover of the box is written: Sentoku Kabin (flower vase). On the inside of the cover is : Rushodo tsukuri ( kiln where it was fired). Fascinating Taisho Period C.1920 tea ceremony bronze tripod incense censor. Almost art deco in design and feel. The Murashi-do bronze was dipped in hot oi at firing to create the mottled patinated colorings. The handles are elephant heads. The highlight of the piece is the very rare and exquisite square mouth and lid. The lid is adorned with a shishi lion which covers the hole the incense smoke wafts out of. Simply superb. Exceptional zen buddhist bronze temple bell with Negoro red lacquer wood stand, cushion and striker. The stiker is wood and the handle is black lacquered. The cushion is silk over cotton. The Negoro stand is older thanthe bell most likey late Meijiperiod, c.1900. The bell is c.1930 and has the japanese characters inscripeted on the bell: 'Tokusi Kinhori' or specially hand made pounded bronze. the sound resonates and seem to go on forever. Signed on the bottom, KANINKOSO, this bronze 'koro' incense burner is from the Showa Period 1950-1960. The main body has a flock of cranes in supurb relief, as well as a lid with a hexagonal turtle diaper and a turtle on top.
