Placed in the tokonoma of a Japanese Tea House with a single flower it evokes the essence of wab sabi and the soul of the tea ceremony. Lovely art deco bulbous shape with wave diaper on the base. Masterpiece of basket making. A fantastic sumi-ire tea ceremony basket Meiji Period C. 1980 to hold the charcoal for the brazier that heats the tea water. Completely Wabi Sabi tiny celadon (seiji) incense brazier on a keyaki (zelkova ) wood base. The celadon incense burner has metal top and comes in a signed paulownia (kiri) wood box. For the tea ceremony, this Taisho Period c. 1920 piece is splendid. We can`t read the kanji as it is worn away. Celadon incense burner is roughly 3 cm by 3 cm. The keyaki stand is hexagonal and is 12 cm in diameter. Shipping included.

Stunning Meiji Period bronze suiteki water dropper for caligraphy to make the ink from an ink stone. But if the lid is flipped it serves as a candleholder for light to write a romantic note to one`s lover in the late Meiji Period C.1910. On the side is inscripted the characters of a chinese poem. Very wabi sabi Taisho Period C.1920 iron tea ceremony tetsubin kettle used for making the green tea water. It is believed boiling water in these kettles confers on the participants long life. The kettle has characters in relief of a poem celebrating the mystical Horai Mountain in ancient China where the sages lived. It has the seal of Eirin, the foundry where it was made. Lovely, brilliantly woven bamboo flower basket used in the 'tokonoma' or alcove along with a scroll to set the atmosphere for the tea ceremony. C.1930. Old 'susudake' or smoked bamboo taken from kitchen ceilings of old farmhouses when they changed the roofs. Wide strips have been inserted and a beautiful plaited weave keeps them in place.
