Quite exceptional murashi-do bronze hibachi in the original box signed and dated Taisho Period 11 April (c.1922). Heavy red bronze was used and when the bronze is red hot it is dipped in hot oil to achieve the mottled colorations of the metal. The piece is then smoked with rice straw for setting and more coloring. Would be stunning as a dinner table center piece with flowers. Excellent condition. Ask for shipping quote. Museum quality Edo Period C.1860 zen temple mizubachi. Lost wax cast with a great dragon spout in grand detail and spectacular shishi mythical lion ornament on the top of the lid. The diaper motif on the base is in raised relief and equally spectacular. The spigot on the dragon head is permanent so we are assuming that there was a constant water flow. Very slight indentation on one of the hanging jewels but so slight you can only see at the right angle. H:51cm x W: 43cm. Ask for shipping quote.

This is a rare and special Buddhist Daruma that we found in a private collection. Daruma is the revered Buddhist icon that brought dharma, the Buddhist teachings from China and India to Japan. He was so determined to reach enlightenment that he decided to sit till his legs fell off. Actually, legend has it that he fell asleep sitting so he cut his eyelids off to stay awake and they fell to the ground whereby green tea seedlings sprouted. Fired in a Hagi kiln with beautiful white glaze and fabulous features. The eyebrows alone make this piece a must. Absolutely a museum piece. c.1880. (16" x 8") (41cm x 20cm).
