Very rare Daruma scroll from Futo Sanjin better known as Kanokogi Takeshiro, (1874-1941). He was mainly a western style - painter, studied in France before returning to Kyoto to establish his own school. In his later years was a juror for the esteemed Bunten and Teiten Art expositions. This painting is all the more remarkable because this was a rare stab at the classic zenga ink paintings. This Daruma is a classic in itself. C.1920. Ask for shipping quote.

Fabulous Ono Chikkyo b.1889-1979 egret on branch under whispering willow branches. Chikkyo studied under Takeuchi Seiho, one of the most important and famous Japanese painters in Kyoto before WWII. His "Shima Nisaku" painting received the Bunten gold medal in 1916 and after that his career took off. There is the Chikkyo Art Museum in Okayama, south of Kyoto and the retrospective " Ono Chikkyo - 120 Years After His Birth" was recently held in March , 2010. Painting H:133cm x W:31.2cm. Wabi - sabi Meiji Period c.1900 'aka' red bronze 'koro' incense burner. Square on four legs, the entire body has the thunder diaper motif and swirling flowers and geometrical designs. The lid has a mythical, playful 'shishi' lion. The legs all are adorned with mythical elephant heads. One end has been repaired, and the repair has been done with silver and a long time ago. Exceptional C.1880 bronze lost-wax cast Meiji Period 'Jizo Bosatsu' or Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva. This bodhisattva vowed to save all sentient beings in all six realms of rebirth from the time of buddha's death until the appearance of Maitreya, the buddha of the future. Exceptionally lovely and well carved Kamakura-bori lacquered hibachi. Kamakura is religiuos center south of Tokyo where kamakura-bori was born in the Edo Period. After carving out of one piece of wood , usually gingo wood, the carving is lacquered and painstakingly polished. This large hibachi has peonies and sunflowers.
