Antique Japanese Meiji Period  Bronze Jizo Bodhisattva
Exceptional C.1880 bronze lost-wax cast Meiji Period 'Jizo Bosatsu' or Kshitigarbha Bodhisattva. This bodhisattva vowed to save all sentient beings in all six realms of rebirth from the time of buddha's death until the appearance of Maitreya, the buddha of the future. Holding a staff which symbolizes the vow to to save. The halo has three flaming jewels or 'hoju' sacred wishing gems. Fine detail throughout and lovely , tranquil facial expression. H:30cm x 14cm.
