Sensational Yanase Asao signed plate from the Onta Yaki Kilns in Oita Prefecture in Kyushu. C.1975. Yanase Asao is 70 years old now and will most likely be designated a National Living Treasure. Onta pottery is famous for the subtle clays and white and green glazes. Bernard Leach, the famous potter studied Onta Yaki in Oita and it had a profound influence on his work. Plate is signed on the back next to a 'kama kizu' a small kiln scar when the plate was fired. Diameter: 19". Ask for shipping quote.
