Very special Bakumatsu (end of Edo Period) C.1860 signed Ceramic Kannon goddess of mercy diety from Bizen in central Japan, one of the premier pottery capitals of old japan. The potter/sculpter is Kokichi. From a buddhist temple, the bizen glaze has lichen spotting indicting it was outside in a shrine. Exceptionally big at 29 inches and 11 inches wide, this diety is a museum piece. Unbelievably perfect condition. The compassion and equanimity from the face is amazing. Ask for shipping quote.
