| Tenjin was a loyal minister of the Emperor who was betrayed by jealous rivals. Tenjin was banished to an island where he endured his injustice. After he died, calamities befell the capital of Kyoto and people started to realize they were being caused by the unhappy and wronged spirit of the loyal minister. To fix things Shrines were built to honor Tenjin and eventually he became the model exemplar for all school kids as the god of learning. Coming complete with a fantastic wooden table, this antique Japanese Fushimi ningyo or south Kyoto Clay Doll will hold court in any room. c.1900.
