Antique Japanese Piggy Bank Gosho Doll c.1940

When visitors came to the capital of Kyoto where the Imperial Palace (Gosho) was housed, a Gosho Doll was a must souvenir to take home. This antique Japanese ceramic doll is elaborately decorated with cranes. The gold cap has a red rising sun symbolizing the empire. A slot in the back for coins means it doubled as a piggy bank. Rare.
