| Unbelievably great condition for this antique Japanese Edo Period c.1870 buddhist temple altar table. The lacquer has gofun underneath the red lacquer to protect against humidity; a practise that ended in the late 19th century. The metal is hand forged copper. The top of the table is wakasa-nuri a specialized lacquering technique where the lacquer is burnished then polished. c.1870. (11" x 7" x 5½") (28cm x 18cm x 14cm).
