Museum-Quality Kannon Goddess of Mercy Stone Jizo

From a zen temple garden of a now defunct Buddhist temple in Gifu Prefecture, this carved granite antique Japanese Jizo dates from the Meiji Period c.1880. This Jizo or Boddhisatva has come back to guide all sentient beings safely through this world to nirvana or paradise and to watch over all departed souls. She is in gasho or prayer mudra and sits on a lotus leaf stone base. Exceptional. c.1880. (Base 8½" high x 14" wide, Jizo 26" high x 8" wide) (Base 21cm high x 36cm wide, Jizo 66cm high x 20cm wide).
