| Artistically woven antique Japanese half moon tea ceremony bamboo flower basket evoking the natural ambience essential to the Japanese tea ceremony. Made in the Meiji Period c.1867-1912, at the height of basketry in Japan, the bamboo is 'sustake' or sooted bamboo taken from an old farmhouse kitchen ceiling. Bamboo inserts below both sides of the handle base lend an air of elegance. Excellent condition. c.1890. (15" x 12" x 15") (38cm x 30cm x 38cm).
