| Antique Japanese black lacquered cypress wood altar with gold leaf inside. Metal fittings are of bronze. Inside is a fabulous Edo Period c.1850 standing wood sculpture of "Juuichimen Kannon" the Eleven-Headed Kannon, god of mercy and compassion. This kannon has a crown of tiny bodhisattva heads with the head of the buddha at the top. A small standing image of Amida Buddha is in the front of the crown as well. This image has two arms; one with open palm, the other, in mudra of granting wishes. The face and hands are perfect with full patina. The feet and parts of the stand are missing due to age.
